6 thick cardboard leaves, comprising elaborate calligraphic presentation page in colors by Carl Eisenschimel, and 5 leaves signed in ink by some 396 employees of the company. 35x44 cm. (13¾x17¼"), full brown morocco decoratively tooled in silver, with metal only of an elaborate rendering of the company initials on front cover, wide dentelles tooled in silver, moire silk doublures, all edges silver, with original two-part box.
Unique presentation piece given to the outgoing President of the San Francisco Gas and Electric Company, which evolved into today's P.G. & E. It is particularly noteworthy for the very elaborate title/presentation page, elegantly calligraphed with lovely color initials and borders; Carl Eisenschimel, the calligrapher, was a noted forensic specialist in addition to being a professor of handwriting, and testified in many court cases. The employees signatures are grouped according to their department, starting with the main office, then the Engineers Dept., Meter Dept., Stove Dept., Meter & Stove Repair Shop, etc. An splendid and undoubtedly meaningful departure give to the man who served and them led the company for over thirty years, but perhaps not as meaningful as the 35 million dollar severance paid to today's departing president of P.G. & E.
