Magnificent series of plates illustrating perspective, optics, architectural motifs and techniques, etc. Marolis' great collection of plates first appeared in 1615, published by Henricus Hondius, whose brother-in-law, Jan Janssen took over his establishment. They in turn drew upon plates on perspective created by Jan Vredeman de Vries. Marolis' various works thus present a wonderful selection of sixteenth and early seventeenth architectural designs, theatre motifs, geometric diagrams, fortress design, etc. The work is thought to be complete, but it is a hodge-podge, with various title-pages and sections, sold as is.
Condition:
Expertly and thoroughly restored, with many plates cleaned and resized, a number laid on backing sheets repairing tears, worming or other defects. Overall very good in near fine to fine modern binding.
