Copper-engraved map, with 11 vignette scenes on the sides and bottom. 48.8x32.8 cm. (11½x12¾") incl. the vignette scenes.

First separate map of Greenland, originally published in Vol. III of Samuel Purchas's Purchas His Pilgrims, 1635. The present issue was apparently published later in the following century, likely in Churchill's A Collection of Voyages and Travels, 1744-46. It has printed at the top right corner, "Vol. 4, page 743"; it was in Vol. III of the Purchas. The vignette scenes include several whales and whaling activities, fishing, "the manner of killing bears," shooting walruses, etc.
