Original log books recording a near-circumnavigation of the globe. The 142-ton Brig O.C. Raymond sailed under the commands of Captains Samuel Dennison and William Harwood on a trading voyage from Sag Harbor to Chile, with stops in South Africa, Australia, China, Tahiti, Tonga, and the Philippines. Although actually a whaling and trading voyage, no whaling was done. The logs were kept by William Harwood and First Mate Charles W. Halsey. The ship was sold in Valparaiso, where the log ends. The second captain of the vessel, William Harwood, abandoned the ship at this point and went to Texas and California. The owners lost both the ship and their investment. Vol. I contains notes regarding the dimensions of the ship by William Harwood, as well as a pencil sketch of a shore and a small boat. Vol. II contains the ownership signatures of James Ruddach, William Harwood and Charles Halsey.
