One large and heavy volume—obviously from a set—documenting a 19th century French tourist’s sojourn down the Nile (ending at Alexandria, with the boarding of the steamer Le Senegal, as shown). The photographs depict sites along the River, such as the Temple at Philadelphia, and life along its banks, with many views of natives, and specific locations on the River (such as the island Elephantine, near present day Aswan, and the First Cataracts). All of the photographs were taken by a member of the party, although it is not clear if that person was an amateur or a professional. The composition of the photographs suggest that they may have been taken by an unknown professional (none of the images are signed in the plate).
