Come One, Come All! is the story of Don Freeman’s arrival in New York in the late 1920s and reflects his instant fascination with the city. This colorful painting is a scene of Times Square at night when all the lights are lit up (and in the alternative front panel free leaf, the title is displayed as a banner of lights on the side of skyscraper), and all walks of life are traversing the streets. The scene includes a self-portrait of Freeman on the right, which is actually a bit he painted on another piece of paper, then excised it and pasted it to the larger sheet. It shows the 20 year-old Freeman standing at the intersection with a saxophone case in one hand and a brief case in the other and looking up at the city lights in awe. A richly colored and wonderful original artwork by Don Freeman. Provenance: The Estate of Don Freeman.
