Signed by the author on front flyleaf. When Knopf was gearing up to promote McCarthy upon the publication of All the Pretty Horses, they printed 400 copies of this special advance issue of the novel. As early as 1993, rumor suggested McCarthy balked at signing so many and only 200 signed copies were issued; it is unclear if any of the unsigned copies were ever distributed. Whatever the final figure, it was a fragile production, prone to heavy wear if read.
