First Editions of the first 2 volumes of Harper's biography of Susan B. Anthony, a third volume (not present here) was published in 1908. Each volume signed by both Susan B. Anthony and her sister Mary S. Anthony, and additionally inscribed by Susan on the front free endpaper. The first volume, to "Mrs. Mary Thayer Sanford. Rochester - N.Y. With Christmas Greetings. From her ever grateful & sincere Friends & Coworkers." The second volume, to "Dr & Mrs Sanford and their Madeline. With Christmas Greetings, From their affectionate friends." Inscriptions dated December 25, 1898. Mary Thayer Sanford was elected Secretary of the Woman Suffragists of New York in 1896 and served as a delegate from New York to the conventions of the National-American Woman Suffrage Association.
