Blue silk ribbon with lettering in gold, and gold fringes & tassels. 18x5 cm. (7x2").

Tuscarora, now a ghost town in Elko County, Nevada, was founded in 1867, when gold was discovered along what was christened McCann Creek. Silver soon became the primary resource, and there were booms and busts over the decades. In 1898 The Young America Gold Mining Company was incorporated and the new 40-stamp Dexter Mill was completed. The company was reincorporated in February, 1899, as the Tuscarora Chief Mining Company. As a result of all of this activity, the Tuscarora Miners Union was organized in October. This rare ribbon was bought by the current owner directly from the grandson of the miner, who was member of the union from the first day.
