Interesting diary and recordings of events occurring during the American Civil War, kept by a civilian clerk in upstate New York. Each page with printed date, and while at times the dates obviously relate to the entry, at other times the entry harkens back to an earlier event, as if Tuthill is writing little snippets of history, philosophical meanderings, recounting interesting facts and statistics, etc. Many of the entries relate to his own activities, but the majority pertain to the larger national events, primarily the Civil War.
