The Hospital-Surgeon was a work of considerable popularity, first published in 1696, and going through numerous editions and translations. The Suite was first appended to the work in 1725 and perhaps brought its author his greatest renown with its "praise of a mercury pill which he apparently regarded as a sort of panacea."--Waring II, 469. Blake, p. 40. Wellcome II, p. 141.
