Presentation copy inscribed by Morris on the half title-page: "William Allingham, from his friend William Morris, Nov. 21st, 1876." A significant association copy of Morris' masterwork, and his own favorite from among his writings and poems. William Allingham, Irish man of letters and poet, was, with William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, part of the pre-Raphaelite circle, and his poetry, influenced by the tradition of border ballads, was close to that of Rossetti and William Morris. He was a correspondent with Morris. This is obviously on of the earliest copies inscribed by Morris, predating the publication of the book.
