“An important work in which Le Cat presents a theory of the propagation of light contrary to that of Newtonian attraction and reports on the pigmented choroid coat of the eye. He assigns the latter to a common embryonic origin with the pigment of the skin.”---Albert, Sourcebook, 1346. The work is illustrated by a set of anatomical plates, including an outstanding folding plate of the base of the brain and of the lacrimal apparatus. Le Cat treats the anatomy and physiology of the sense organs in a philosophical context. Le Cat’s Traité des sens was first published in Rouen in 1740. Wellcome III, p. 468. Blake, p. 260.
