xi, [1], 500 + 32 ad pp. (dated 1895). Engraved frontispiece portrait; 6 illustrations in the text. 19x12 cm. (7½x4¾"), original dark green cloth stamped in gilt with a rhea hunt on front cover, spine lettered in gilt. Third Murray Edition.

This is the first issue with Darwin's postscript integrated into the text; the postscript was first seen in the tenth thousand of 1860 and hitherto placed separately. Quite apart from its scientific value, Darwin's first published book (1839) is an important travel work in its own right. Ownership signature of George Massey Watson to verso of front free endpaper.
