Delightful colorful promotional poster with cartoon maps of San Diego and Balboa Park. A different image on each side of the sheet: the highly detailed cartoon like birds-eye-view of the Exposition grounds in Balboa Park is signed in print in lower right-hand corner by Don Bloodgood, while the reverse is a map of the entire San Diego region done in similar if not as condensed a style. This work by Don Bloodgood is somewhat similar to the cartographic art of Jo Mora. A piece of popular commercial art from the days when San Diego was a city of only 200,000 souls! Derek Hayes includes this colorful map in his new book, Historical Atlas of California (Univ. of California Press, 2007), p. 220: "The California Pacific International Exposition was held in San Diego using funds from the Works Progress Administration (WPA), monies that were intended for the arts and all types of artists on relief."
