To President Truman's Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder, sending a copy of a memo that the Bank’s Managing Committee had sent that same today to the President (memo no longer present): "The boys on the Committee along with my son, have been discussing the problems mentioned with me, and I suggested that the best thing for them to do would be to put their thoughts down in black and white and send them on to Mario [Giannini]. He might, in turn, send them on to Senator Downey, Chairman of the investing sub-committee, for his information. Needless to say, I would very much appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may care to pass on to me." A.P. Giannini was the San Francisco founder of what became the largest and wealthiest privately-owned financial institution in the world. Giannini had enormous political influence in Washington, especially through his friendship with John Snyder, one of Harry Truman's oldest and closest friends since their Army service together in World War I.
