Title leaf and 24 plates, each containing two engraved illustrations with accompanying text. 23.4x15 cm. (9¼x6") later full brown morocco, spine gilt, silk endleaves, all edges gilt. First Edition.

A very rare work on the ladies' hairstyles of the French royalty and elite from the mid 16th century through the close of the 18th century with more than half of the plates displaying the styles of Marie Antoinette's day. The sheets are uncut so that each page shows two hair-styles and two panels of engraved text, and the leaves are printed on one side only. No copies of the present work have appeared at auction since 1998. OCLC/WorldCat locates 6 copies, only 3 within the U.S. (University of South Florida, Newberry Library, Museum of Fine Arts Boston).
