Clipper ship sailing card, on porcelain coated stock, with large color wood-engraved illustration. 16.7x10.4 cm. (6½x4").

Clipper ship sailing card in exceptional condition, for the "Splendid A1 Clipper Ship" E.H. Taylor, commanded by Lord, bound from New York to San Francisco. A woman in a red dress lies in a hammock on a tropical island, a three-masted sailing ship on the water in the distance followed by a steamship. Roberts pictures the card, and comments "The lovely lady lounging on the E.H. Taylor card below looks comforting, and sublimely inviting. Her status as the featured element of this Nesbitt design is enhanced by the natural frame of the palm trees that curve inward above her and serve to bracket the illustration itself... What red-blooded man of the sea wouldn't want to lie down with this sweetheart? Note the steamer trailing in the background." Roberts, Clipper Ship Sailing Cards, p. Siegel 91.
