[11], 133 (of 134), [3] leaves. Engraved title page. With 134 (of 135) full-page engravings of maps, with the printed description on the verso of the preceding map; 3 other full-page and 1 half-page engravings. (Oblong 8vo) 12.3x17 cm (4¾x6½"), period vellum.
Charming Ortelius miniature atlas from the early 17th century, this edition quite rare. With an unnumbered double-hemisphere map of the world and 133 numbered maps, including another world map, continent maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, and America (north and south together), numerous maps of European countries and provinces (England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, etc., and their parts), plus Italy, Sicily, Iceland, China, Japan, Russia, Persia, India, the Holy Land, etc. etc. Lacking map 64, Silesia. OCLC/WorldCat lists only four examples of this 1612 edition, locating two of them: at the Museum Plantin-Moretus, and Indiana University; the other two were apparently located in Europe.
Condition:
Covers worn and stained but firm; title page soiled with top corner chipped, affecting only margin; some soiling and aging within, but overall very good.
