First edition in English of the first book on book collecting, the prime work of Richard de Bury (1287-1345), also known as Richard Aungerville (or Aungervyle), an English writer, bibliophile, Benedictine monk and bishop. A patron of learning, He was one of the first English collectors of books, and is chiefly remembered for his Philobiblon, written to inculcate in the clergy the pursuit of learning and the love of books. The "Philobiblon" is considered the oldest and most beloved bibliophilic work.
