Inscribed by Rogers on front free endpaper: "To Vera Bloom, daughter of a real dad, from Will Rogers, your friend." Vera Bloom was the daughter of American politician Sol Bloom. Also laid in is a single page typed letter from Rogers, on his stationary, signed in pen at the bottom. The letter is not dated, and is addressed to a Mrs. Lawson. The letter seems to be a response to a request for a blurb or statement concerning Womens' Clubs. In part: "I am mighty glad the Womens Clubs are taking up the children work. I used to think there might be some chance of getting our government interested in it, but that was hoping too much, being a ranchman and farmer and also a child owner, I have often wished that when one of my children got sick I could wire or call up some Government expert and have him some look after him, like I can do if one of my cows, or pigs get some disease...it's not a bad idea whoever thought of doing something for the children. If it works and you improve them, I will send you mine." The bottom blank third of the letter is affixed to cardstock. Affixed to the half title page is a snippet from the NY times by Rogers, mentioning Sol Bloom. A unique and inscribed copy of this Rogers classic. The first volume is stated Volume I although Rogers admits that he had no intention of producing a Volume II.
