Rare proof engravings on larger sheets than those issued in the quarto edition of the Pacific Railroad Reports, measuring approx. 34.4x47 cm. (13½x19½") - the plates as they were bound into Vol. XI of the Reports measured about 22x29 cm. (8¾x11½"). These plates were in illustration of E.G. Beckwith's Report of Explorations for the Pacific Railroad, on the line of the 41st Parallel of North Latitude. Although the Beckwith report was in Vol. II of the Reports, the plates were issued along with the maps in Vol. IX.
