The second edition of the second road guide to be published in the United States. The maps are strip style, similar to those of Ogilby. The text begins with a geographical and historical description of Philadelphia, including the principal buildings in the city, among them the Philosophical Society, the Philadelphia Library, the University, Pennsylvania Hospital, banks, churches, societies, etc. The guide then moves outside Philadelphia and describes the towns and villages along the roads to both New York and Washington, with descriptions of each of those cities. First issued two years earlier; although the maps are identical to those in the first edition, the preceding text has been updated. Curiously, the first four leaves of maps are on thicker paper than the remainder.
