Father Eusebius Francis Kino Jesuit between ye Years 1698 & 1700," 19.5x19.3 cm (7¾x7¾") plus margins; plus numerous other folding engraved plates, most of natural history subjects, a few maps, etc.(4to) 23.2x18.4 cm (9¼x7¼"), old calf.

Early English edition of Father Kino's map, which definitively ended the myth of California as an Island. Warren Heckrotte comments: "The first English publication of Kino's map was in the Philosophical Transactions of December 1708. Whether this map in the abridgement is the second appearance and whether it is from the same plate I do not know. The Kino map in Lockman's books [Travels of the Jesuits..."] is from a new engraving. This abridgement was published in Italy in translation with the Kino map in Italian..."
