Jones, Harry W. The Dawson City Dude March (Medbery Music, Chicago, 1897) Original pictorial Alaska map cover, 10.5 x 14”, 4pp. Rare. WorldCat locates no institutional holding and there is no copy in the comprehensive Levy Collection at Johns Hopkins.

One of the few contemporary published musical compositions about the Alaska-Klondike Gold Rush. All are rare, understandably, given such forgettable titles as March of the Gold Miners; Golden Nugget Quick-step; Klondike or Bust!;  I've got the Klondike Fever; On the Yukon's Golden Shore; Klondike Rag; and the imaginative “Rory, Bory, Alice”. This March is the only one that highlights the thriving frontier city of 40,000 that grew up overnight to become the Yukon territorial capital. Jones, the composer, was not himself a gold-seeker, except in the sense of hopelessly chasing musical riches with such compositions as the Bankers March and the Swamptown Shuffle.
