263 pp. Six inserted plates. (8vo) original pictorial green cloth. First British Edition.

Inscribed by London on the front endpapers to Charles Warren Stoddard: "Dear Dad:- I'm most as glad as you are that you didn't have this book. If you had I should have been robbed of this pleasure. I've been all over the ground in this book; for, know that I, too, was once a "pirate," and the first man I sailed with was French Pete. The second man I sailed with was Nelson. With lots of love, Jack London. Wake Robin Lodge, Glen Ellen, Calif. Oct. 16, 1906." The front panel of the original envelope, addressed in London's hand, is affixed to the front pastedown endpaper, though slightly trimmed. Additionally inscribed by the author's daughter, Becky London, on the verso of front free endpaper. British edition of London's scarcest work of fiction and his only "juvenile" novel. The story was published first as a serial in St. Nicholas Magazine. BAL 11872 (note).
