A British scholar’s journey from St. Petersburg through Moscow to Smolensk, shortly after Napoleon passed there in late 1814. The finely-executed and attractive color plates showcase the architecture, landscapes, and people. Approximately 83 pages are devoted to Johnston’s visit to St. Petersburg, with 45 pages on Moscow.
