Baird and Greenwood describe the work as: "Purportedly written from the overland journal of George Adam, one of the Party, but almost certainly fiction." Cowan and others describe an issue with 72 pages, priority is disputed but a strong argument can be made for the 60 page edition being the later variant with the text and illustration reset to economize printing and paper expenses.
