First English publication of Galileo's groundbreaking work on the solar system and the motion of the earth. The 1632 first edition, published in Florence in Italian, led to his appearance before the Inquisition, and he was forced to recant all that the Dialogo professed, after which he is reputed to have exclaimed, sotto voce, "Eppur si muove" ("and yet it does move"). The engraved pictorial title, Diologus de Systemate Mundi, shows Aristotle, Ptolemaeus, and Copernicus discussing the nature of the world. This edition is apparently listed twice by Wing, once under the printed title, once under the engraved title. PMM 128; Wing 168 & 165.
