2 vols., the first containing testimony and affidavits, the second facsimiles of diagrams and design sketches. 10¾x6½ & 11¾x9, both rebound in modern cloth with the original gilt-lettered cover cloth laid on as well as the titled portions of the spine cloth.

Important evidence in the dispute over who invented, and should benefit financially from, the telephone, containing numerous facsimiles of sketches and schematic drawings by Thomas A. Edison and his design team, as well as testimony of Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and others. Though it is universally acknowledged today that Bell invented the telephone, his patents of 1876 and 1877, and subsequent commercial development, produced the most prolonged and important litigation in the history of American patent law. Among the many claimants was Thomas Alva Edison, the premier American inventor, whose "speaking telegraph" was developed in virtually the same time frame as Bell's telephone. The present collection of printed testimony and facsimile drawings was compiled by Edison's attorney, Lemuel W. Serrell, for use in the court case. Perhaps the most fascinating portion is the volume of facsimiles of drawings, many "signed off" by Edison, showing the process of invention which paralleled that of Bell.
