Record of one of the most famous court cases in Scottish history, wherein the inheritance by Archibald James Edward Douglas of the estates and title of his uncle, Archibald Douglas, First Duke of Douglas, was at first abrogated, then upheld, to the grave disappointment of the previously named heir the Duke of Hamilton. This decision caused great joy in Scotland, as well as rioting and attacks on the justices who had previously ruled against Douglas, and against the scorned Hamilton.
