Illus. by Howard Buchwald, incl. folding plate. Original dec. grey buckram from design by Buchwald. No. 33 of 160 copies produced at Red Ozier's Chelsea workshop by Ken Botnick & Steve Miller. First Separate Edition.

Signed by Burroughs and Buchwald in the colophon. One of WSB's most beautiful books, extremely scarce and sought-after. A note in the book reads, in part, "The Soft Machine was published in 1961 by Olympia Press in Paris; in 1967 by Grove Press in New York; and in 1968 by Calder & Boyars in London; among other editions. Each successive edition contained revisions and additional material and in particular the 1968 version contained sections written in the mid-1960's employing the newly-perfected cut-up technique. The Streets of Chance is a complete story found in the 1968 version and nowhere else. On 30 January 1981, Mr. Burroughs oversaw revisions of the text by James Grauerholz and Steve Miller, and this is that version."
