Daily record of events aboard the 996-ton clipper ship Ellen Foster during its voyage from Bombay to Callao via the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The ship was under the command of Captain James E. Robinson and the log is kept by First Mate John Higginbothem. References are made to weather conditions, the ship laboring heavily and pumps used, the loading of guano, as well as desertions among the seamen and officers following the ship's arrival in Callao, as well as a mini-mutiny when a seaman drew a knife on the first mate. In June 1867, the Ellen Foster was forced to return to Callao, where she was condemned and sold. After some repairs, the ship left Callao for Puget Sound, but went ashore at Neah Bay and broke up. Though no whaling was engaged in, this original log was part of the whaling collection, and so is offered with it.
