Exquisitely sumptuous printing of the Life of Lazarille de Tormes. This copy not numbered but corresponding most closely to the 1 of 5 sets "contenant trois etats des eaux-fortes et un tirage sur peau velin," though this copy with each plate in five states, one of which is on actual thin vellum. The states are: without letters; on actual vellum, signed in the plate, with two remarques in the lower margin; on vellum paper, signed in the plate, with one remarque in the lower margin; on vellum paper, signed in the plate, with no remarque in the lower margin; on vellum paper, with printed imprint, caption and artist's name in the lower margin. In addition to the fine printing, enchanting illustrations and excellent vellum paper, the binding on this particular copy is a superb example of the craft.
