"Dolly" Grey writes to her husband in Flagstaff, Arizona, a rather plaintive letter indicating her restiveness at being a housewife and the wife of Zane Grey. She takes umbrage at the prospect of cancelling a train trip east that she had been planning, "Nothing doing - my dear, when it comes to going east by train!! Why that is the particular thing I'm looking forward to enjoying most - verifying and crystallizing my impressions of last years... this is going to be the one chance I ever had to get away... Don't you think I deserve a lot of credit for getting as much out of life as I do...when my soul cries out for you and what you fail to give me; when every instinct I have, every trait I've inherited points to the integrity of the home - the father, mother, children, a unit... After all, I am the contributing element, and you are the one that gives to the world. But I like the feeling that I'm `the man behind the gun.'"
