Description:

Illustrated with 14 colored pages of drawings by A.S. Forrest, plus black and white illustrated title-page. 9¼x12¾, color pictorial tan boards.

Originally written anonymously in 1782 by William Cowper (1731-1800) but the comic poem became so popular that Cowper later admitted authorship. Relates the tale of a linen draper named John Gilpin and his anniversary holiday, beset with misfortune from start to finish.

Condition:

Spine chipped and splitting with red cloth ties showing, dampstains to edges, soiling, previous owner's signature to top front right corner, original red tie string at fore-edge cut off; original signature detaching from boards; else good to about very good - scarce.
