11x8½, typed letter signed by James M. Cain, addressed to literary agent H. N. Swanson, dated November 18, 1966 on Cain's letterhead.

The letter discusses a signed contract that was being mailed from James M. Cain to H. N. Swanson. "Dear Swanie: The deal sounds fine, you did yourself proud, and congratulations -- to say nothing of thanks....But pending its arrival, I would suggest that you have your girl look again, on the chance, indeed the strong probability, it is actually in your files. You handled this [d]eal ("d" hand corrected in ink), and it would be most unlike you to send me the contract without having it copied for your own future reference. Have her look under DOUBLE INDEMNITY, PARA OUNT [PARAMOUNT(?)], CAIN, AND KANE -- I get a lot of Kane's mail, and there is no guarantee every Swanson file clerk can spell, or even read. And, it's been a long time ago." Further goes into future TV productions for a series in connection with Cain's Mildred Pierce.
