Woodcut map with some color. 70x53½", folds into thin cardboad covers with calligraphed labels in Japanese; folded size is 11x7, with later cloth chemise, bone clasps.

Rare, early Japanese map of Tokyo (Yedo), with much detail on the Japanese capital, many place names in Japanese, etc. There are two labels in Japanese on the cover, the largest reads "The Map of Edo..." with indication that it was possibly the 1st to 6th or 7th year of the Hoei Era (1704-1710). In the lower left corner of the map is the name of the mapmaker, "Suhara Mohei, Minami I-choime; Nihonbashi, Edo." George H. Beans, "A List of Japanese Maps of the Tokugawa Era," lists some maps by Mohei but not this one.
