Highly important work by Louis Joblot (1645-1723), considered the first French microscopist. This is the second edition, but considerably enlarged from the 1718 first edition titled Descriptions et Usages de Plusieurs Nouveaux Microscopes, with more plates and additional entomological notes. The plates show several microscopes and the life forms observed by them. Joblot, professor of mathematics at the Ecole nationale des Beaux-Arts, probably became interested in microscopy during the visit of Huygens and Hartsoeker to Paris in 1678 when they demonstrated microscopes brought from Holland.
