Rare first edition in original wrappers of the great work of the "Father of Egyptology," deciphering the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt. This is a lithographic facsimile of the manuscript by Champollion, published nine years after his death in 1832 of a stroke. The 36-page preface is letterpress, following by the reproduction of his manuscript with the hieroglyphic symbols followed by the French equivilents. There are a number of later pencil and ink underlinings and annotations.
