History of the world with four folding maps of the great continents, including Henry Seile's Americæ Nova descriptio, the western hemisphere with California shown as an island, this being Tooley's (M.C.C. 8) 3rd issue, "published by the widow of H. Seile `Impensis Anae Seile' 1663. Rob. Vaughan sculp." Tooley notes the 1652 first issue as "based on Speed's map of 1627, the only change in California being the insertion of the words Nova Albion in large type in the north of the island...." The other maps present are Chetwind's Europe, Africa and Asia. This issue of the book contents a title-page printed in black, with imprint "London: Printed for Philipp Chetwind, Anno Domini 1665," preceded by a title-page printed in red and black, with imprint "London: Printed for Anne Seile..., MDCLXVI," which in turn is preceded by a copper-engraved pictorial title-page with imprint "London: Printed for Philip Chetwind..., 1670." The maps of Asia and of the Americas are bound in upside-down. McLaughlin 39; Wing H1693.
