Important treatise written by Makower and Geiger while they were doing research under Lord Rutherford at the University of Manchester, where they developed the first form of the Geiger Counter for measuring beta ray and cosmic ray particles. With the rubberstamp of former owner William M. Baker to the top of the title-page, with his bookplate laid in (as is the 1977 typed cataloge description of the book from John Howell-Books in San Francisco).
