This first volume of Brown's work is the most significant, covering the Americas, and including descriptions and pictorial representations of the various tribes of North American Indians, their customs and habits, etc. One interesting feature of the present volume is the presence of an original albumen photograph, tipped to the front free endpaper, of a dapper bearded gentleman in a felt hat, below which is written "The Author"; there is no reason to suspect this is not the case.
