Curran's imagery is suggestive of scenic landscapes or still lifes. Because the images resemble traditional analogue photographs, we may be compelled to interpret these images as representations of scenes that Curran happened to stumble upon in the world. Our cultural experience has informed us that photographs take on meaning through their connection to the "real" world. We often point to photographs and say, "this is my sister" instead of "this is a photograph of my sister." Photographic images, therefore, are presumably filled with meaning through the object they represent. But Curran's images, are the outcome of scanning three dimensional objects. The resulting digital "scene" does not correspond with a physical place in the real world. Curran himself did not see these "landscapes," they only exist in digital form.
