32 pp. Drawing of a spear on page 25. 7¾x5¼, saddle stitched orange paper wrappers, front cover illustration printed in black from an illustration by John Coleman Burroughs, based on a J. Allen St. John drawing, original mailing envelope. First Edition.

The scarce pamphlet which has been attributed to Edgar Rice Burroughs as the author, was issued as part of a package given to new young adults as a plan to form various neighborhood Tarzan Clans of ten or more boys. After paying a $1.00 membership fee, one would receive this guide, a membership card, and a signed Burroughs first edition. According to Heins “The Clan idea seems to have been conceived and developed by Mr. Burroughs, not as a business proposition, but to capitalized on the universal popularity of Tarzan in those days…to encourage participation in athletics and outdoor life among American youth, based on Tarzan’s high principles of fair-mindedness and the protection of wildlife from needless killing.” The pamphlet includes the important 4-page "Dictionary of the Ape Language"; also the various rules and regulations of the club; athletic games to play; poems; how to make tools and weapons; and more. Heins T24.1.
