An important atlas of the United States on the eve of the Civil War; the Territory of Nebraska encompasses the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, etc., Idaho has yet to be carved out, Utah extends to the California border, as does New Mexico. The proposed railroad lines across the continent are shown. Derived from Rogers and Johnston's large Map of The United States, British & Central America, the Atlas is on a single scale (54.5 miles to one inch), an among the important features is the presence of separate maps of New Mexico, Nebraska, and Utah, as well as Texas and California.
