[8] pp + 154 engraved plates, all but a few being maps with hand-coloring in outline and wash. 10¼x12¾, later leather-backed marbled boards.

Remarkably detailed series of maps in all different scales and emphasizing different aspects, many with insets of city plans, etc. The map of "Vereinigte Staaten von Nord-America: Californen, Texas und die Territorien New Mexico u. Utah..." has Gold Region printed in California with a large portion of the state outlined in gold, indicating the extense of the wealth; Utah spreads from the Rockies to the California border, with "Apacheria" between California and New Mexico. Wheat Transmississippi 1852 states that "the provenance of this beautiful but outdated little map is unkown to the writer," and here it is. The map of the entire U.S. and Mexico also designates the gold region.
