Rare edition of Carey's important atlas, with maps of the United States, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Northwest Territory, Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia. The frontispiece is hardly ever seen hand-colored, this coloring early though the Northwest Territory is colored with boundaries not yet known to Carey. Covers separating and a bit bowed, spine head chipped, corners showing and some abrasion, front endpapers dampstained; minor browning throughout; frontispiece with stub tear and a few edge tears (one affecting lettering in border), folding plates and tables with minor offsetting and occasional edge creases; overall, very good.
