Single leaf from the Nuremberg Chronicle, probably the most famous of illustrated incunabula. The woodcuts were commissioned from Michael Wolgemuth and his shop (which included the young Albrecht Durer). The view of Pavia measures 14x22.3 cm. and the portraits are of King Philip of Macedon, Diogenes, Plotinus, Apuleius, and Hermes. Most of the portraits for this edition were imaginary.
