Fairly detailed orders from Shepard to a member of his command, possibly a retained copy, docketed "Col. Shepard orders to Ensn. Bradley, Mrch 26." Shepard instructs Bradley: "Sir, You will march the party under your command to Litchfield without loss of time. Good order and Regulations must be observed while on your march. You will be particarly carefull that the Soldiers do not Plunder or Wantonly Destroy the Property of the Inhabitantes through which they are to march - and by no means suffer soldiers to stroll on their march - they are to march as in Plattoons or Sections the whole time. When you arrive at Litchfield you will halt one day, and if Capt. Allen or Lieut. Stow shall arrive there you will deliver the men to either of them and amediately return to this post..." If those two officers do not apprear, Bradley was to proceed to West Point, where he was to relinquish command of the detachment.
